The 2020 School-Located Immunization Programs will NOT be Providing Flu Vaccines in Schools

The School-Located Immunization Program in southeast Minnesota provides influenza (flu) vaccine to students in all schools in Olmsted county, Kasson-Mantorville schools in Dodge county, Pine Island schools in Goodhue county, and Mower county schools. However, the flu program has been cancelled for the 2020-2021 school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This means the flu vaccine will NOT be given in the schools this year.

It is crucial for everyone, six months of age and older, to get the flu vaccine. Flu can cause serious problems in young children, older adults, and people with medical conditions. Due to COVID-19, a rough flu season could cause serious issues for our communities. It could further reduce school attendance and lessen health care options.

The flu vaccine is not available in Minnesota at this time. Please watch for more details in late September or early October about the flu vaccine availability. We advise all families get their flu vaccine by the end of November.
